Description
In our home in Cutler Ridge, south of Miami, Miami Dade county near Homestead. I remember trying to cook live crabs in boiling crab pot water, and as we dumped in the live crabs, some got out and skittered around inside. The great crab roundup ensued.
My father was off to learn how to be a military advisor, and the three of us (Nana, Dave and I) lived in the house. There was a fireplace, and we would drive around in our white Ford station wagon, looking for pieces of wood to burn in that fireplace in the forest nearby. Sometimes Nana would let me drive.
We would also have land crab "invasions" when land crabs covered the street, where they would get run over by cars. The smell of the rotting crabs that were run over was putrid.
